How to Keep Going During Quarantine By Maintaining Your Routine.

Let’s face it…

These are interesting times for all of us.  I am not going to write this, pretend to be some medical expert on viruses or try to give you advice on how to avoid getting sick.  I don’t have those answers. I wish I did but I don’t.

What I can do is try to best explain ways that you can make the most of this quarantine situation, maintain a solid routine, and continue moving closer to accomplishing your goals.

Sound good? Okay great.

Here are just a few tips you can use to keep seeing progress while stuck inside:

1. Create Your Home Gym Space

Believe it or not, it is super important you designate an area of your apartment or house you know you will utilize for your workouts.  Having that designated space is crucial to make sure you stay on track and keep moving. Set up a small home gym in that area so you know exactly what equipment you have at your disposal.

Don’t have a home gym yet?

Check out my previous blog article to learn all the essentials you will need for your home gym.

2. Keep a schedule

Probably the best thing you can do to stay on track is to maintain your usual schedule as best as possible.  The more “normal” you can keep your day to day activities, the more likely you are to succeed.

Take each day as if you were still going to work.  If you would normally exercise at 7a, then you should still get up and exercise at 7a.  This quarantine won’t last forever, so maintaining your routine as best as possible will help for when we all transition back to regular life.

3. Find a new hobby

This one should be self explanatory.  With all this extra free time, learn something new or take up an activity you’ve been meaning to explore.  I know this may sound a bit douchey but I love listening to music, and have started to try my hand at djing in my extra free time.

You don’t have to do anything over the top like learning how to DJ, but even a small task as reading a few extra books can go a long way in helping you maintain some mental clarity.  Whatever it may be, now is the time to challenge yourself in new and fun ways.

We both know you have the time.

4. Just enjoy it.

None of this was in our control.  You didn’t do anything wrong. No one you know did anything wrong either.  This coronavirus has us all stuck inside for the foreseeable future.

There are two ways of looking at this…

You either become miserable at all the things you don’t have right now.

Or you decide to make the most of this opportunity, reconnect with those you love, and spend some, i’m assuming well needed, time to reflect on your life, and all the good you have around you.

Bringing it all together.

There is one group of individuals I want to take a moment to thank right now:

All the health care providers out there working tirelessly to keep us all safe.  Whether you are a doctor, nurse, EMT, or anyone else who is out there risking their lives to protect others…

I want to say THANK YOU!

Stay safe everyone.
